IKOS Porto Petro - Mallorca

Arrival & Setting

Our arrival at Ikos Porto Petro started on a positive note. After navigating a somewhat chaotic flight (thanks to the spirited energy of Master Tiny, our toddler), we were picked up by a hotel-provided car with blissfully cool air conditioning. The baby seat they provided? Let's just say it had clearly seen better days. It wasn't exactly the latest model, but it was functional, and that’s really all that matters when you’re trying to get through a 45-minute drive without a meltdown.

The journey from the airport to the resort wasn’t too long, and while 45 minutes might seem like a stretch with a restless child, the scenic route made it much more bearable. The winding roads offered stunning views of the Mallorcan countryside, with rolling hills and a glimpse of the sea to keep us entertained. By the time we reached the resort, we were more than ready to dive into relaxation mode.

The first thing you’ll notice at Ikos Porto Petro is the breathtaking setting. Perched on cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean, the reception area makes quite an impression. It’s the kind of view that immediately puts you in vacation mode—turquoise waters stretching to the horizon, rugged cliffs, and a breeze that makes the entire scene feel like something out of a postcard. From the moment you step out of the car, the luxury is evident.

Deluxe guests, like us, are treated to their own concierge service, which made the check-in process completely seamless. We were greeted by a staff member who took care of everything for us, from the check-in details to organizing our dining reservations. Having a dedicated concierge for the duration of our stay was a game-changer. It meant we didn’t have to deal with any of the usual administrative hassles that can sometimes disrupt the start of a holiday. Everything was taken care of, and we could focus on enjoying the resort from the moment we arrived.

2. Kids

Ikos Porto Petro is an absolute dream for families traveling with young children. If you’ve ever experienced the chaos of trying to manage a toddler while still hoping for a bit of relaxation, this place truly caters to both. They’ve thought of everything: cots in the rooms, high chairs in every restaurant, kids’ clubs for all ages, and even babysitting services on the beach so parents can enjoy a quiet swim.

The kids' facilities here are exceptional. The resort provides a dedicated kids’ club that keeps children entertained for hours, offering everything from crafts to games, ensuring that your little ones are both engaged and exhausted by the time they return to you. There’s also a baby club, which was a huge plus for us. It allowed us to leave Master Tiny in the capable hands of the staff while we had a few moments to ourselves.

For parents of very young children, the thoughtful touches throughout the resort are what make a difference. There are changing tables and nappy bins in virtually every restroom across the resort, making those inevitable diaper emergencies much less stressful. And unlike many places that seem to merely tolerate children, here, the staff truly seem to enjoy interacting with the kids. There’s no sense of inconvenience—just genuine warmth. This creates an atmosphere where you don’t have to constantly worry about your child being disruptive. The resort is filled with families, so the occasional tantrum during a meal is met with understanding smiles from fellow parents rather than judgment.

The beach babysitting service was another standout feature. It allowed us to enjoy a peaceful swim in the clear waters while knowing that Master Tiny was safely entertained nearby. It’s a level of service that feels luxurious when you’re a parent used to juggling a million things at once. This is if AMAN did kids clubs.

3. Room & Resort

Our deluxe junior suite was spacious and tastefully designed, with a light and airy atmosphere that perfectly complemented the coastal setting. The best feature, by far, was the balcony. The view was stunning—overlooking the ocean, it offered unobstructed sights of the sea and sunsets that were practically made for Instagram. It was the ideal spot to unwind after a day at the beach or the pool, and the cool sea breeze made it all the more enjoyable.

However, while the room was certainly nice, it did have a few minor shortcomings. For a resort at this price point, the fixtures and fittings felt a bit underwhelming. They were modern, but you could tell the room had been recently finished—there were still pencil markings inside the wardrobes, which made it feel like the construction crew had left only moments before we arrived. The deluxe junior suite was spacious enough for the three of us, but if you’re traveling with a larger family, it might start to feel a bit cramped.

The resort itself is very well designed, offering plenty of space to explore without ever feeling too vast or overwhelming. It’s laid out in a way that makes everything accessible—whether you’re headed to the pool, one of the restaurants, or the beach, nothing feels too far away. The deluxe area of the resort is particularly well done, with its own exclusive pool and lounging space. It offers a more serene environment compared to the main family areas, which is perfect if you’re seeking a bit of quiet time away from the hustle and bustle.

The resort also boasts excellent facilities, including a state-of-the-art gym and a luxurious spa. I indulged in a massage during our stay, and it was truly one of the highlights of the trip. The spa staff were incredibly professional, and the treatments felt like a much-needed reset from the constant energy of parenting. The gym, while well-equipped, did raise some questions—who exactly is working out on holiday? But hey, for those who enjoy it, it’s top-notch.

The beaches are gorgeous, with soft sand and some of the clearest water I’ve ever seen. Both the main beach and the smaller, more private deluxe beach offered plenty of space for lounging, and we never felt like we were fighting for a spot. The water was perfect for swimming, warm and inviting, and ideal for children with its gentle waves.

4. Food & Service

Now, onto the food, which is where things get a little more nuanced. Ikos Porto Petro operates on an all-inclusive basis, and while the variety of food is impressive, the quality did vary from meal to meal. There are several restaurants to choose from, ranging from Mediterranean-inspired fine dining to more casual, family-friendly options.

Overall, the food was good, sometimes excellent, but not always consistently exceptional. One night, we enjoyed a perfectly cooked steak that rivaled anything I’ve had at a top-tier restaurant. Another night, the fish was, unfortunately, a little overcooked and left something to be desired. It’s the nature of an all-inclusive setup, where feeding large numbers of guests inevitably leads to some variation in quality.

That being said, there was always something delicious to eat, and with such a range of options, it was easy to find a dish that satisfied. The breakfast buffet, in particular, was a highlight—offering everything from fresh pastries and fruit to made-to-order omelets and local delicacies. The variety was impressive, and it catered to both adventurous eaters and those who prefer a more traditional breakfast spread.

The service, on the other hand, was impeccable throughout our stay. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, attentive, and eager to help. Whether it was the waitstaff in the restaurants or the team at the front desk, we felt well taken care of at all times. The attention to detail was evident, and there was a genuine warmth to the service that made our stay all the more enjoyable.

There were a few moments where service was slower than expected—mainly at peak dining times—but these were minor inconveniences in the grand scheme of things. It’s worth noting that while the service was slower at times, the staff always made up for it with their friendly demeanor and willingness to go above and beyond.

5. Conclusion

In the end, Ikos Porto Petro exceeded our expectations in many ways, particularly when it came to how well they cater to families. From the thoughtful touches in the rooms to the wide range of activities for children, the resort is clearly designed to provide parents with a stress-free, enjoyable holiday. The setting is absolutely stunning, the service is excellent, and there’s no shortage of ways to relax and enjoy yourself.

The food may not always be top-tier, but there’s enough variety to keep you satisfied, and the overall experience more than makes up for any minor culinary missteps. If you’re looking for a family-friendly getaway where you can genuinely relax—without worrying about your child disrupting other guests—Ikos Porto Petro is a fantastic choice. We’ll definitely be back, if for no other reason than to take advantage of that beach babysitting service again!

This is the Rolls Royce of Kid-friendly resorts.
